The spring and the fall are great times to stain your deck. Try to stain your deck when the sun isn’t directly overhead. As long as the temperatures are above 45 F, and cooler than 90 F, you should be fine to stain your deck. The one thing to keep in mind, is if the temperature outside is 80, if the boards are in the sun, they could be 110 F. If you applied any deck stain to boards this hot, it would most likely fail, as the coating would literally burn as it was being applied. In the shade, the boards could be 75 F. To check the surface temperature easily, you can pick up a handy laser thermometer gun for about $15 or $20 here.
